Leukemia Treatment
Leukemia treatment side effects can be managed with a "drug holiday.”
Doctors sometimes recommend a temporary break in the use of a drug when side effects become a problem. For example, serious rashes can develop and other side effects can be experienced with the use of Gleevec® a very successful treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia. In these cases, a doctor may suggest a patient temporarily halt the use of Gleevec. It's called a drug holiday. The side effect may go away or lessen in severity. Or a doctor will treat the side effect with other medication. When the problem has been resolved, Gleevec treatment may resume.
